«He evolved from the Scottish hillside,
the grey mists forming his body,
a bunch of lichen his topknot,
crooked juniper stems his forelegs
and a wet bromble is nose».
Sir Walter Scott
Dandie Dinmont Terrier
Tell me, how many times have you seen Dendies in the street)? I think the majority answer will be 0! Therefore, I will begin the continuation of my eulogy on this breed from history.
Who knows, chur do not prompt)) remember, we were talking like that in our childhood, but in this situation I ask you to prompt, since there is not much information and everywhere it is the same) And so I'll start!

In some kingdom, in a certain state, or rather on the border of England and Scotland, fearless hunters for badgers and otters lived in a place called Cheviot Hills, which were first described as a separate breed in the late 1600s or early 1700s. To say who were those ancestors, now it is certainly not possible and there are many opinions on this matter. But one thing is clear, even then, these beautiful animals attracted so much attention to themselves that people engaged in their selection.
Of course, in those days, the main work was conducted on the working qualities, but judging by the old drawings and reproductions, the appearance of these restless toddlers also attracted the attention of breeders. In the early 1800s, farmer James Davidson (who was a tenant at the Hindley farm (which, by the way, is another name for our Dendies-Hindley Terrier) acquires a pair of dogs and, without further ado, calls them "Tarr" (abbreviated to Mustard) and "Pepper"
At the same time, Sir Walter Scott apparently stumbled upon similar dogs during his travels. When he wrote the famous novel" Guy Mannering, or Astrologer, "published in 1814, Scott describing one of his farmer characters gave he had a fictitious name "Dandie Dinmont." There is no proof the fact that Scott was acquainted with Davidson, but, as they say, everything met at the right time and in the right place.
All neighbors and acquaintances recognized in Davidson's dogs that same "immortal six who was not afraid of anyone in the wool." And soon other farmers took this name for their similar but still nameless working terriers, ultimately changing the different names to the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, which remains the name of the breed today.
According to some reports, around the 1830s Sir Walter Scott was the owner of the Dandie Dinmont female bitches terrier, nicknamed the Wasp, she was mated by a dog named Mertun Dandy and got a bitch named Meger. And at this time in the dark-dark forest in the trap to the poacher caught a fine dog, outwardly fully consistent with the description of the Dandie! He was released and called Old Pepper and gave him a wife - Megeru!)) Yes, with the translation of nicknames into Russian it turns out very fabulously))
From this pair was born Old Ginger - which for today is officially recognized as the "founding father" of the breed. And it turns out that Sir Walter Scott not only gave the name of the breed, but also helped to create it. November 17, 1875 was formed by the Terrier Club Dandie Dinmont (DDTC), which became the third oldest dog breed club in the world. At the American Cynological Club (AKS), the breed was first recorded in 1888. United Kennel Club (UKC) recognized the Dandy Dinmont Terrier in 1918. The current FCI standard was published on June 24, 1987.
In 2006, the Kennel Club recognized the Dandie Dinmont Terrier as one of the rarest breeds of dogs! ( And I very much hope that having a centuries-old history, having survived so many wars, having its ups and downs, this brave little dog will not become the next head of history !
The Magnificent Companion! With eyes that see right through you!)) In a word - I love you, Dandie Dinmont!
My love is now divided between two breeds. Everyone who knows me for a long time, remember that my rottweiler is everything. 5 years ago she entered my life - not a big dog, long, with a nice head in a fluffy hat and everything else, I lost my peace!

At work, I talked with many breeds, but always returned to rottweilers always! I admired them for a long time! Every year, communication was in their favor! And here it is! My miracle! A little over a year ago SHE appeared in our house! Rottweiler, of course, was also at home))) and even that! The guy was taken by us from the Rottweiler Rehabilitation Center, and not the simplest in nature)) and very unattractive when barked at him! I really do not like)))
But she! She does not bark), she just did not look at him), and he let her into the house without words.
Dioressence - "Surprisingly beautiful and deep sounding, complex transitions and enchanting harmony of precious ingredients create a captivating royal image." this is how the creators of the fashion house Christian Dior describe their creation. Dioressence for Pradis - I'm ready to repeat word for word, it's all about her! Yes, it's all about the Dandie Dinmont terriers all over the world! Surprisingly beautiful, it's amazing, it's a combination of comic and graceful cats, stiff wool on the back and magic silk hats! Where else can you find such combinations?
Complex character transformation) Oh, yes))) This is a genius of combinations! Every time, looking at the dandies, I understand that the speed of thought) And not always you will have time to turn it))
Dendies are very family dogs. In terms of life. Absolutely anyone can accept this. If you are used to long walks with him, if you like to sit in the park, he will sit next to him. Yes, to the satisfaction) to dress in a New Year's costume, yes, please) just to be near to you. And children are a separate topic)) Children can do anything! Kiss, bite, climb in the nose, ear, pull the paw, tail)), of course, within the reasonable, I mean from the side of the parent)), and the dandyk will not touch, well, if it is really, sit down and look so in the eyes ), that you grab his arms and are already calming down like a child))
As for living together with other dogs, everything is very different. But in them there is a certain egoism) it seems to me so))
I can continue), but no one will read so much)) But I will continue to describe this wonderful breed)
Today, Dandies has not lost the charm of his ancestors, only slightly changed his mission. A magnificent companion, affectionate, faithful. Even with its small size, which is very deceptive, brave and fearless. He is always ready to protect his master and his family! Dandies Dinmont has a pathological love for children.

The child is allowed absolutely everything, and the energy and enthusiasm of this dog is enough for a whole group of kindergarten =). If you start a game of catch-up with Dandies, then you will have to run after it for a long time - they develop an enviable speed. And most importantly - these doggies are very nimble, creatures not predictable in the game!
Looking at the Dandie-Dinmont Terrier, despite their aristocratic appearance, you will not be able to stop the smile. And you will definitely not be bored with Dandies!
Today, the breed is given the status of native with the threat of degeneration. We can say that Dandie Dinmont terriers became elite dogs - it is very difficult to buy them even in their historical homeland.
Their popularity in Russia is not very high. But more and more people in recent years are paying attention to dogs from the group of terriers, recognizing them as excellent companions. It is possible that in the future Dandie Dinmont Terrier will collect a wide range of fans.
We are already lucky! We already have family members named Dioressence, Motto and Alice. We experienced the universal attention to living, bright and good-natured creatures! On the street, at exhibitions and in parks, the attention of children and adults is just off scale! We wish to experience such a positive, good mood and positive emotions that our babies evoke!
